mobile phones and bush telegraph
Mobile phones and bush telegraph....
A stereotyped view of communication in Africa is of one of men and women communicating with each other from one top of a hill to another top of another hill, usually via the sound of drums... In Rwanda, 'Land of Thousand Hills', this would have been the ideal setting for bush telegraph in a Tintin in Rwanda adventure...
But it is too late now to write that story... Satellites, satellite dishes, Telecom and a few multinationals are making sure that everyone in Kigali will know within 3 minutes when Rwanda scores the winning goal against Nigeria in the last qualifying match before the World Cup...

ReplyDeleteWe're back home safe and sound. Sydney summer is pretty hot and very sticky especially compared to our frosty French experience!
I had a long lovely chat and a cuppa with Elana yesterday. She's doing well and getting ready for the next part of her journey.
I love reading you news and think of you often. School in one more week. Berk!
Je t'embrasse tres fort et j'attends impatiemment tes nouvelles.
Gros bisous
Kiki
