The white sheep of the family

I am the only ‘whitey’ around these hills.. For many young children I am probably the first one they have ever seen. Even when I try to be discreet, and unnoticed, I attract a lot of attention. Children follow me everywhere; they come and walk right next to me; at any time of the day, they say “good morning!’ or ‘Muzungo!’ or ‘how are you?’ When the engine of my motorbike stalls and I have difficulties started it again, they laugh. When I am trying to do some work in the teachers’ room, they all come to the window to watch me.
It is sometimes tiring to be the white sheep of the family...
